
AD/ADAS Market Function Owner - Beta

The responsibility of this role is to lead Automated Driving and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (AD/ADAS) testing programs evaluate and drive local market improvements of the AD/ADAS systems in the USA and Canadian Markets for Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles.
The role leads customer evaluation and feedback programs (‘early access programs’) to methodically evaluate customer satisfaction before large-spread feature introductions.
Additionally, this role provides technical input on all USA and Canadian-market topics to support the related development departments for local market adaptations. This includes leading system specification reviews and revisions, certification and regulatory reviews, and media and regulatory-facing technical presentations.
Relocation assistance (domestic or international) is not provided for this position.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversight: Own beta program timelines, deliverables, and contingencies; track and communicate status to all stakeholders.
- Software deployment: Coordinate with counterparts to enable OTA updates, on-demand functions, MB app configuration, and variant coding on participant vehicles.
- Data & insights: Define data goals, engage analytics owners to deliver target metrics, and translate findings into clear reports for senior leadership.
- Customer enrollment & training: Identify and recruit target participants in collaboration with MBAG and MBUSA; provide ongoing support and create training materials that set clear expectations for beta features.
- Systematic testing: Test and evaluate AD/ADAS system performance under US-market conditions; collect measurement data to identify, analyze, and document issues.
- Prioritization: Apply local market expertise to independently prioritize and escalate defect fixes or improvements.
- Fault management: Conduct first-level root cause analysis on system faults; track open issues, support functional owners through resolution, and confirm defect fixes.
- Release reporting: Compile fault summaries and Release Recommendation reports; deliver to responsible departments systematically and on schedule.
- Regulatory & certification: Provide technical consulting on certification and regulatory requirements for the US and Canadian markets.
- Competitive benchmarking: Evaluate competitor AD/ADAS systems — attributes, performance, and driver monitoring — and deliver objective comparisons and actionable improvement recommendations to development teams.
- Requirements: Define component and system performance requirements grounded in US market road conditions, driver behavior, and customer expectations.
- Alignment: Sync system and vehicle-level requirements with global function owners and third-party development partners.
- Leadership communication: Present findings and recommendations to executive leadership; influence product and testing direction.
- Maintain regular communication with internal and external partners to stay current on shifting timelines and cross-functional dependencies.
- Support adjacent engineering teams on feature development, system issues, and release status.
- Develop testing strategies, test routes, methods, and reporting frameworks for ADAS projects.
- Establish and track performance metrics tied to key ADAS testing deliverables.
- Drive process improvement and share project status and results with international testing sites.
- Research US-specific traffic environments and conditions relevant to AD/ADAS.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (mechanical, computer, computer science, mechatronics, electrical, etc).
- 5+ years of relevant work experience.
- AD/ADAS Knowledge: Knowledge of Automated Driving and Driver Assistance Systems. Knowledge of competitor systems and all AD/ADAS sensor technologies.
- Automotive Development Knowledge: Understanding of vehicle development process. Familiarity with vehicle networking architecture (CAN, Flexray, etc), common diagnostic tools and measurement systems such as CANoe, DTS Monaco, as well as ability to analyze and interpret diagnostic and fault measurements to trouble shoot issues.
- Project Management Skills: Ability to coordinate across multiple departments the vehicle updating, testing, and reporting in order to deliver on-time results in a dynamic environment.
- Automotive Functional Safety: Understanding of automotive functional safety principles and standards (ISO 26262, SOTIF, UL4600, etc).
- Organizational and Leadership Skills: Ability to organize people, budgets, logistics, and workshop tasks within the Tech Center, as well as with the customer departments, functional teams, and management in Germany. Ability to participate and lead groups on test-drives.
- Interpersonal and Team skills: Experience in intercultural environment, German language skills favored to read and understand project requirements and communicate with counterparts in Germany. Must be able to independently build-up working relationships with intra-company expert departments in Germany.
- Ability to travel up to 30% including domestic and international business trips and test drives. This includes test trips that require frequent overnight and weekend travel.
- Ability to test drive vehicles and pass Daimler driver T2 level certification that evaluates the driver’s control of the vehicle dynamics at limit-handling conditions.
- Valid US Driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- German language skills, written and spoken.
- Master's degree with emphasis in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering.
The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $122,700 - $153,400.
